The House of Representatives’ Committee on Labor and Employment approved a P200 across-the-board daily wage hike on Thursday.
The approval followed a recent agreement on the wage increase, reached between congressmen and worker organizations.
Ten members of the House labor panel approved the measure, following House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez’s announcement that a consensus had been reached. House leaders and labor groups agreed on a daily minimum wage hike of P200 during a meeting on Tuesday.
House deputy speaker and TUCP Party-list Rep. Democrito Raymond Mendoza, one authors of the proposed measure, said that this hike would benefit around 5 million minimum wage workers out of poverty.
“Tama na, sobra na. Let’s end poverty wages,” Mendoza said.
“Let us make history together and pass this law after 36 years,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Senate approved a legislated P100 daily minimum wage increase for private sector workers. Outside the premises of Congress, labor groups continue to rally and advocate for the passage of the wage hike bill.
