House of Representatives elects new leaders for key committees

The House of Representatives has elected new leaders for several key committees, including the Appropriations, Rules, and Quad Committees, in a significant organizational move aimed at enhancing legislative oversight and coordination during the 20th Congress.

Nueva Ecija 1st District Rep. Mikaela Angela “Mika” Suansing has been elected chair of the Committee on Appropriations, with Bataan 2nd District Rep. Albert Garcia as senior vice chair. Suansing’s leadership comes as the House prepares to deliberate on the proposed 2026 national budget.

The Quad Committee, which includes the Committees on Dangerous Drugs, Public Order and Safety, Human Rights, and Public Accounts, plays a vital role in House investigations. Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores will chair the Committee on Dangerous Drugs, while Manila 2nd District Rep. Rolando Valeriano will lead the Committee on Public Order and Safety. Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. retains his position as chair of the Committee on Human Rights.

Davao de Oro 1st District Rep. Maria Carmen Zamora has been elected chair of the Committee on Accounts. Marikina 2nd District Rep. Miro Quimbo will chair the Committee on Ways and Means, with Manila 1st District Rep. Ernesto “Ernix” Dionisio Jr. as senior vice chair. Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua retains his chairmanship of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability, while Cagayan de Oro 1st District Rep. Lordan Suan heads the Committee on Public Information.

To support Majority Leader and Rules Committee chair Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, the House elected Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor as senior deputy majority leader.

The newly elected deputy majority leaders include Reps. Julienne “Jam” Baronda, Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, Zia Alonto Adiong, Patrick Michael Vargas, Ma. Alana Samantha Santos, Ernesto Dionisio Jr., Jeyzel Victoria Yu, Arnan Panaligan, Alyssa Michaela “Mica” Gonzales, Marie Bernadette Escudero, Ivan Howard Guintu, Wowo Fortes, Adrian Jay Advincula, Anna Victoria Veloso-Tuazon, Crispin Diego Remulla, Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte, Jose “Bong” Teves Jr., Munir Arbison Jr., and Ramon Rodrigo “Rodge” Gutierrez.

The new assistant majority leaders include Reps. Bai Dimple Mastura, Rhea Mae Gullas, Daphne Lagon, Roberto “Pinpin” Uy Jr., Agatha Paula Aguilar Cruz, De Carlo Uy, Leonel Ceniza, Ronald Singson, Mark Anthony Santos, King Collantes, Patricia Calderon, Juan Carlos “Arjo” Atayde, Alexandria Gonzales, John Geesnell “Baba” Yap II, Francisco “Kiko” Barzaga, Ralph Wendel Tulfo, Esmael Mangudadatu, Bella Vanessa Suansing, Javier Miguel Lopez Benitez, Katrina Reiko Chua-Tai, Jorge Daniel Bocobo, Ryan Recto, James “Jojo” Ang, Brian Poe-Llamanzares, and Johanne Monich Bautista.

Earlier, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez Jr. administered the oath of office to Marcos and nine deputy speakers, along with Secretary General Reginald Velasco and Sergeant-at-Arms retired Police Maj. Gen. Napoleon Taas.
