Starting Friday, April 25, 2025, the iconic vehicle used by the late Pope Francis during his visit to the Philippines will be on public display at the Sanctuario de San Antonio parish grounds in Makati. This unique piece of history, fondly referred to as the “Pope Mobile,” is also affectionately known as the “Pope Jeep” due to its resemblance to the traditional jeepneys that navigate the streets of Manila.
Visitors will have the chance to view the vehicle until Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. This open-air, white jeepney was crafted locally and modified to serve as the Pope’s mobile during his 2015 visit, showcasing both Filipino craftsmanship and the pontiff’s desire to be closer to the people.
According to a statement from the parish, the jeepney symbolizes Pope Francis’ humility and deep connection with the Filipino people. The vehicle’s design was a tribute to the resourcefulness and spirit of Filipino ingenuity, reflecting the Pope’s outreach to the masses during his trip.
During his time in Manila, Pope Francis celebrated Mass at the Manila Cathedral and at the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas. Despite inclement weather, including heavy rains and strong winds caused by an approaching storm, the Pope also held a memorable outdoor Mass in Tacloban City, further embodying his dedication to his mission.
