“Ne Zha 2: The Devil’s Fury” had a dazzling premiere in the Philippines, with Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, SM Supermalls president Steven Tan, and top executives from SM Cinema and Warner Bros. coming together to celebrate the event on Sunday, March 9, at SM City North EDSA in Quezon City.
The Chinese animated film has become a global sensation, breaking box office records and making history as the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
On March 12, it will debut in SM Cinemas across the Philippines, offering local audiences a chance to experience its epic tale of fate, determination, and defiance.
Ambassador Huang, who expressed his excitement about attending the Philippine premiere, praised SM Cinema for bringing the film to the country. “I would like to thank SM Cinema for introducing the film and hosting this premiere,” he said.
Following the success of its predecessor Ne Zha (2019), Ne Zha 2 is the first non-Hollywood film to break into the top 10 of the global all-time box office chart. The movie has garnered over $2 billion in global earnings, attracting more than 300 million viewers worldwide.
Huang pointed out that the film’s success reflects China’s ongoing advancements in technology and culture. “These innovations represent just a glimpse of China’s ever-evolving technological and cultural landscape,” he said.
Beyond Ne Zha 2, the ambassador highlighted China’s growing influence in artificial intelligence, robotics, and global digital trends, noting platforms like Rednote and award-winning video games such as Black Myth: Wukong, which have earned international recognition.
One of the most powerful messages in Ne Zha 2 is embodied in the line: “If there is no path ahead, I will forge one myself.” Huang emphasized the significance of this sentiment, which has inspired many facing challenges.
The film’s themes of perseverance and defiance resonate strongly with those overcoming obstacles. “As Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi once said, ‘Where there is blockade, there will be breakthroughs; where there is suppression, there will be innovation.’ This is the spirit of Ne Zha 2,” Huang said.
With breathtaking animation and a compelling narrative, Ne Zha 2 continues to break new ground as it reaches audiences in the Philippines and across Asia.
As it releases on March 12, local viewers will experience a stunning visual spectacle while drawing strength from the film’s inspiring story of courage and resilience.
“I hope we will not only appreciate the splendor of Chinese culture but also draw strength from it—the courage to forge ahead despite difficulties, the determination to break through constraints, and pioneer new frontiers,” the ambassador concluded.
