Heavy rains, winds kill 45 in India

At least 45 people have died in Uttar Pradesh following powerful thunderstorms that swept across several districts in recent days.

The India Meteorological Department reported that cyclonic activity originating over Punjab triggered strong winds, with gusts between 60 kph and 100 kph, hitting various parts of the state.

Heavy downpours were recorded particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Weather officials have warned that the unsettled conditions may persist through Monday, with more thunderstorms, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds expected in central Uttar Pradesh and the Terai region.
