Dagupan City experienced soaring temperatures as the heat index climbed to 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, signaling intensifying conditions with the onset of the dry season.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said this marked the second straight day that the city recorded high heat index levels.
Weather officials noted that a 40C heat index falls under the extreme caution category, the highest recorded so far in Region I this year.
Other monitored areas in the region also logged elevated readings, with Bacnotan and Laoag City reaching 35C, while Batac and Sinait posted slightly lower figures.
Authorities said the heat index represents the apparent temperature, combining air temperature and humidity to reflect how hot it feels to the human body.
Health officials advised the public to reduce outdoor exposure, especially during peak hours, and to drink enough water to prevent heat related illnesses.
Pagasa earlier announced the weakening of the northeast monsoon, indicating the transition to the country’s warm and dry season.
Historically, Dagupan has recorded extreme heat index levels, including previous highs exceeding 40C in recent years.
