Handcrafted bags by QC female detainees go on sale at Solaire Resort North

Handcrafted beaded and bayong bags made by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory are now available for purchase at Solaire Resort North, marking a new milestone in the city’s rehabilitation and livelihood efforts.

The locally made bags were formally turned over to the management of Solaire Resort North in a ceremony led by QCJFD Jail Warden J/Supt. Lourvina Abrazado, underscoring the partnership between the private sector and the local government in supporting reintegration programs for women detainees.

The initiative forms part of the “No Woman Left Behind” program of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, in collaboration with the QC Small Business and Cooperatives Development Promotions Office and Quezon City University.

City officials said the program aims to give female PDLs meaningful opportunities to rebuild their lives by learning marketable skills and earning income to support their families, even while in custody. Beyond providing livelihood, the project is also intended to restore dignity, encourage personal transformation, and prepare participants for reintegration into society.

By bringing the products to a high-profile commercial venue, the city hopes to showcase the creativity and craftsmanship of the women behind the bags—while reinforcing the message that rehabilitation, not exclusion, is central to public safety and social development.
