The southwest monsoon, or habagat, was expected to keep parts of Luzon wet on Sunday, with conditions potentially worsening as Typhoon Saudel moves closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Pagasa forecast occasional rains over Batanes, where prolonged or heavy rainfall could trigger flooding and landslides in vulnerable communities.
Scattered rains and thunderstorms were also expected across Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Central Luzon.
The same monsoon-driven weather could affect Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and other parts of Cagayan Valley.
Elsewhere in Luzon, generally cloudy conditions could be interrupted by isolated rain showers and thunderstorms as habagat continued to affect the island.
Weather conditions could become wetter in the coming days as Pagasa monitored Saudel, which remained outside PAR as of the latest bulletin.
Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the typhoon was expected to enhance the southwest monsoon once it enters the country’s monitoring area, potentially increasing rainfall over areas already affected by habagat.
Saudel was last spotted about 2,245 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon. Pagasa assessed that the typhoon had a high chance of entering PAR on Monday.
