The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said nearly Php 20 billion had been returned to members while almost all of its services had shifted online, as the pension fund highlighted recent gains following an Asian public service recognition for its chief.
Through its Balik Ginhawa program, GSIS said close to Php 20 billion had been returned to more than 700,000 members as of Sept. 22, covering about 1.6 million loan contracts.
The agency also said 99.6 percent of its services had been digitalized, while the GSIS Touch mobile platform had surpassed two million registered users.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso was recently named an Asia’s Modern Hero for Public Service and Financial Leadership during an awards ceremony at Okada Manila.
“This award serves to inspire us to do more, to protect and grow the GSIS fund, to embrace innovation and improve the lives of our stakeholders,” Veloso said.
GSIS also reported stronger financial results in the first half of 2026, with net income rising 27.78 percent to Php 94.75 billion from Php 74.2 billion in the same period last year.
Gross income reached Php 195.38 billion, while total assets stood at Php 2.05 trillion as of June 30. The pension fund also paid Php 94.67 billion in claims and benefits during the first six months of the year.
The agency has expanded financing options for members, including green loans for solar energy and electric mobility, alongside other services available through digital channels.
Veloso, who assumed the GSIS presidency in 2022, has focused on fund growth, investment performance, digitalization and translating financial gains into benefits for government workers and pensioners.
