DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros — True to its commitment of support to help improve education in the country, the Government Service Insurance System, in partnership with the Department of Education, recently donated ₱400,000 worth of information and communications technology (ICT) equipment to the remote public school of the Patrociña D. Encarnacion National High School in Dumaguete City.

According to GSIS president and general manager Jose Arnulfo ‘Wick’, the donation, which includes nine laptops, two printers and three wall fans, is part of GSIS’s Adopt-a-School initiative aimed at supporting last mile schools defined as institutions in hard-to-reach areas with limited access to learning resources.

The Patrociña D. Encarnacion National High School, formerly known as Jose B. Cardenas Memorial High School, is among 165 schools nationwide identified under the program. Reaching the campus requires a four-hour drive and a trek through outlying barangays.

“Our commitment goes beyond providing equipment. We strive to help students adapt to today’s learning needs by giving them access to digital tools and new opportunities. Every gadget represents hope. Each one is a testament to our shared belief that every Filipino child deserves a fighting chance for a brighter tomorrow,” Veloso enthused.

He added that the donation supports both DepEd’s Last Mile School Program and GSIS’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts to promote inclusive and quality education.
