Malacañang announced that the government does not need to seek additional funds for the “Pamilya Pass 1+3 Promo” on the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 and Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2. This initiative aims to alleviate transportation costs for families spending Sundays together.
During a press briefing, Claire Castro, Undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Office, stated, “Government-run po ito at karaniwan naman po kapag Sunday ay hindi naman po napupuno ang LRT at MRT natin. So, wala pong budget na required for this.” This translates to, “This is government-run and usually on Sundays our LRT and MRT are not full, so there is no budget required for this.”
The Pamilya Pass 1+3 Promo allows one paying family member to bring up to three family members for free rides every Sunday. Eligible family members include parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, uncles, aunts, and guardians with dependents.
The promo will be available until the last Sunday of June 2028. Castro explained that this timeline allows the next administration to decide whether to continue the program. She noted, “At bakit hanggang last Sunday ng June 2028? Dahil nais po ng Pangulo na bigyan din po ng karapatan ang susunod na administrasyon kung ano po ang nanaisin nilang programa patungkol po dito.” This means, “And why until the last Sunday of June 2028? Because the President wants to give the next administration the right to decide what program they want regarding this.”
Castro emphasized that this decision reflects the President’s respect for future leadership.
