By phasing out copper, Globe is actively reducing its environmental footprint. The move supports its long-term green network strategy, helping eliminate the demand for copper theft, which has historically led to service disruptions in many communities.
“We’ve built the infrastructure. Now we need to protect it,” said Joel Agustin, Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering. “Fiber has no resale value — cutting it only disrupts the lives of people who rely on it. We’re asking residents to help us guard these lifelines of connectivity.”
Despite the shift to fiber, cable-cutting incidents persist — often due to outdated beliefs that fiber cables are valuable like copper. In fact, out of the first 425 towns transitioned, 40% experienced intentional cuts at some point. And even in places where copper theft was common, over 60% still saw fiber-related incidents.
Globe emphasizes: there’s no financial gain in cutting fiber, only consequences. A single severed line can knock out internet for homes, schools, offices, and entire communities — for hours, even days.
