Germany’s economy expanded in the second quarter of 2026 as stronger exports helped maintain the growth recorded at the start of the year, official data showed Tuesday.
Gross domestic product increased by 1% from the same period a year earlier, according to Germany’s Federal Statistical Office, Destatis.
Compared with the first quarter, the economy grew by 0.3%, extending the expansion seen during the opening months of 2026.
Destatis President Ruth Brand said the latest figures showed that Germany had maintained its economic momentum from the beginning of the year.
Brand attributed much of the second-quarter performance to exports, which also supported economic growth during the previous quarter.
Foreign trade strengthened during the April-to-June period, with overall exports of goods and services rising by 2% from the preceding quarter.
The increase was driven by shipments of goods, while exports of services showed no quarterly growth, according to Destatis.
The latest figures indicated that overseas demand remained an important source of growth for Germany as its economy continued to expand in the first half of 2026.
