Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. has resigned as a member of the Commission on Appointments to assume what he described as a more independent role in the House of Representatives.
Garbin said in a statement on Wednesday that his move was a personal decision and not the result of any disagreement or political rift.
During the chamber’s plenary session, Abono party-list Rep. Robert Raymund Estrella was elected to replace Garbin in the CA.
Garbin said his decision followed “thoughtful reflection” and was rooted in his commitment to public service guided by responsibility, accountability, and integrity.
He stressed he had “committed no wrongdoing” and remained grateful for the trust given to him by his constituents.
Garbin also expressed continued support for the House leadership and the Majority bloc despite stepping away from the appointments body.
He said good governance should transcend political alignment and that cooperation was essential when public welfare was at stake.
Garbin vowed to continue supporting measures that would benefit Filipinos and to maintain active engagement in legislative work.
He added that he would help ensure his party-list remains true to its vision of advancing welfare-based programs for vulnerable communities.
Garbin has recently faced criticism over Ako Bicol’s association with former Rep. Elizaldy Co, whom he previously defended amid allegations linking a company associated with Co to flood control corruption.
