A man wanted in a frustrated homicide case dating back more than two decades was arrested in Tabaco City, Albay, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The suspect, identified by police only as alias “Cardo,” was apprehended in Barangay Bombon on Sept. 4 during a Police Regional Office 5 operation targeting individuals with outstanding arrest warrants.
Police said the arrest stemmed from a warrant issued on March 10, 2003 in connection with a frustrated homicide charge.
Authorities said the suspect had remained beyond the reach of law enforcement for about 23 years before Tabaco City police located and arrested him.
Following his apprehension, the suspect was taken to the City Health Unit for a medical examination before being placed under the custody of the Tabaco City Police Station.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the length of time that had passed would not stop police from pursuing individuals facing outstanding warrants.
“Hindi hadlang ang mahabang panahon sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Ang bawat warrant ay dapat maisagawa at ang bawat akusado ay dapat humarap sa tamang proseso,” Nartatez said.
The suspect is expected to face further court proceedings in connection with the frustrated homicide case.
