Free Surgical Mission Set in Ilocos Norte on Oct. 9-11

Ilocos Norte will host another round of free surgical missions from Oct. 9 to 11, Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos confirmed Tuesday.

She encouraged residents to avail of specialized services, including surgeries for cleft lip and palate deformities, burn contractures, breast and hand deformities, as well as procedures for shoulder, knee, and hip injuries and osteoarthritis.

“This mission reaffirms our shared commitment to accessible and quality healthcare for all our constituents,” Araneta-Marcos said.

The provincial government is organizing the event in partnership with Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) and the Singapore General Hospital.

MMMHMC chief Dr. Maria Lourdes Otayza said the program benefits both patients and local doctors. “Sharing of best practices” with Singaporean surgeons, she noted, ensures more meaningful outcomes for patients.

For three years now, Ilocos Norte has been hosting Singaporean doctors for free surgeries. Last year, 18 patients benefited from hip, knee, foot, and ankle operations—triple the number recorded in 2023.

Per Department of Health rules, all procedures must be done with local doctors to guarantee proper aftercare.

Residents interested in the upcoming mission may visit the Outpatient Department of Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital (0998 868 9774) or the Orthopedic OPD Clinic of MMMHMC (0905 675 8907).
