BAGUIO CITY—The City Health Services Office (CHSO) will continue inspecting food establishments as a public safety measure, especially after cases of food poisoning are recorded.

“Tuloy-tuloy lang ang inspection and monitoring natin. Part yan ng regular function ng sanitation division ng opisina nation (Monitoring and inspection will continue. It is part of the regular function of our sanitation division),” Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes said.

The CHSO has received information about four incidents of food poisoning, with the latest reported on Jan. 5 involving nine tourists who had a meal in a food establishment along Kisad Road.

Upon inspection, it was learned that the water used in the establishment’s kitchen is being delivered and is sourced from outside Baguio.

Aside from these cases, the CHSO said there was no spike in diarrhea and other food-borne diseases in the city during the 2024 Christmas holidays, considered the peak tourist season.

Brillantes said that spot inspections were made regularly following the outbreak during the holiday season in 2023.

It can be recalled that the city government reiterated a call during the holidays for food establishments and food handlers to be cautious and ensure the public’s safety to avoid a repeat of the 2023-2024 gastroenteritis outbreak that affected about 2,000 people. (PNA)
