Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo to Visit the U.S. for Key Meetings

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo is scheduled to undertake a working visit to the United States, where he will meet with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on June 9 and 11, respectively. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced that Manalo departed Manila on Saturday.

During his meeting with Secretary Rubio in Washington, D.C., they are expected to discuss “matters of mutual interests.” However, the DFA has not yet provided specific details regarding the issues that will be addressed during this meeting.

Following his engagements in Washington, D.C., Secretary Manalo will travel to New York City, where he will deliver the keynote address at the celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day. He will also participate in an event under the auspices of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

In a pre-departure statement, Manalo emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to the United Nations, stating, “In my official meetings in New York, I will affirm the unwavering commitment of the Philippines, as a founding member of the United Nations, to remain actively engaged in all discussions to support the UN and work with UN member states for global action on pressing challenges of our time.”

He further noted the importance of solidarity around the principles and common purpose for international peace and security, especially as the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary this year.

Additionally, Manalo has been appointed as the next Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, succeeding Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo, who is set to retire soon.Bookmark messageCopy messageExport
