A fire broke out in Barangay 602, Sta. Mesa, Manila, at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from firefighters.
The fire was raised to the first alarm at 10:57 a.m., then to the second alarm at 11:02 a.m., and the third alarm at 11:15 a.m. The fire had large flames and escalated quickly, prompting the rapid increase in alarms.
According to a barangay official, as of 4:08 p.m., the fire has not yet been declared out.
Reports indicate that around 300 families were affected, as multiple families lived in a single house.
“More or less 300 (families) iyan,” a barangay official said when asked about the number of families impacted by the fire.
Bystanders watched as the Bureau of Fire Protection searched for items the families could use and checked for casualties. However, no casualties have been reported.
“Marami anak, marami,” a bystander said when asked how many people were affected by the blaze.
“Siguro more than 200 (families) iyan,” the bystander added.
The affected families have gathered at the barangay hall to be interviewed and to receive shelter and food.
