Global logistics giant FedEx Corporation has expressed appreciation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the Philippine government’s continued support for its investments as the company expands operations to strengthen the country’s position as a regional logistics hub.

During a meeting with Marcos in Singapore on the sidelines of the Forbes Global CEO Conference, FedEx Airline and International President and CEO Richard Smith praised the Philippines’ business environment and growing logistics capabilities.

“The Philippines is doing everything right,” Smith told the President.

FedEx officials highlighted the company’s rapid expansion in the country, with operations now reaching nearly 40 flights weekly, reflecting increasing demand for international cargo and logistics services.

The company currently operates two major facilities in the Philippines: the Clark Gateway Hub in Pampanga and the Manila Gateway at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

Opened in 2021, the Clark Gateway Hub initially occupied 17,000 square meters at Clark International Airport, serving as a key processing and distribution center for international air cargo entering and leaving the Philippines.

In May 2026, FedEx broke ground on a major expansion project that will increase the facility’s size to more than 78,000 square meters, over four times its original capacity.

The expansion is expected to significantly improve package sorting, cargo handling and specialized freight services, including cold-chain logistics for temperature-sensitive and high-value shipments.

The upgraded facility is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028.

FedEx expects the development to support Philippine exporters, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), by improving access to international markets and strengthening global supply chain connections.

Smith also indicated that the company may consider another expansion shortly after the project’s completion if current business growth continues.

Aside from cargo operations, FedEx maintains an Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center in Clark, which handles customs documentation, administrative processing, data management and other trade-related services for several regional markets.

The company’s latest investment builds on earlier discussions with the Marcos administration.

On November 15, 2023, Marcos met with FedEx executives on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, United States, to discuss the proposed US$180-million Clark 2.0 expansion project.

The development forms part of efforts to position the Philippines as a major international logistics and distribution center in the Asia-Pacific region.

Headquartered in the United States, FedEx provides transportation, e-commerce, supply chain management and business services across more than 220 countries and territories.

Its Asia-Pacific headquarters is based in Singapore, overseeing regional operations involving logistics, customs brokerage, trade facilitation and e-commerce solutions.

The company employs more than 500,000 personnel worldwide.

The continued expansion of FedEx operations in the Philippines is expected to strengthen the country’s logistics infrastructure, improve trade connectivity and create additional opportunities for businesses seeking access to global markets.
