A former traffic enforcer was arrested after allegedly posing as an active officer and demanding money from a concrete products company in Parañaque City, police said.
The 42-year-old suspect had first approached the company along East Service Road in Barangay San Martin de Porres on Sept. 1 and allegedly introduced himself as a Taguig City traffic enforcer.
According to police, he sought money in exchange for supposedly shielding the firm’s delivery trucks from traffic violations. Company personnel refused the demand.
The suspect allegedly returned on Sept. 9 and again entered the company’s administration office, where he was accused of renewing the demand for payment.
Employees then contacted authorities, prompting officers from the Parañaque City Police Station to respond to the area.
Police said the suspect tried to escape on a motorcycle and resisted arrest before officers subdued him. A subsequent verification with the Taguig City Traffic Management Office showed that he was no longer an active traffic enforcer.
Investigators were also checking whether the suspect may have been involved in similar incidents in nearby cities. NCRPO officer-in-charge Christopher Abrahano said police had ordered further investigation and the immediate filing of appropriate charges.
The suspect remained in police custody pending inquest proceedings for attempted robbery-extortion, usurpation of authority, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority under Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code. The allegations remain subject to due process.
