As the Philippines’ digital economy gains momentum, power and infrastructure players are aligning to meet the rising demand for always-on connectivity. MPower, the retail electricity supplier of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has sealed a strategic deal to energize the expanding operations of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines.
The agreement positions MPower as the electricity provider for three of STT GDC Philippines’ key facilities—STT Fairview and STT Cavite 1 & 2—covering six accounts with a planned capacity of up to 40 megawatts, including renewable energy sources. The move signals a growing shift toward integrating sustainability with high-performance digital infrastructure.
At the heart of the partnership is a shared recognition: data centers are no longer just support facilities—they are mission-critical engines of economic activity. As industries lean more heavily on cloud services, artificial intelligence, fintech platforms, and e-commerce ecosystems, the need for stable and scalable energy becomes non-negotiable.
STT GDC Philippines President and CEO Carlo Malana highlighted that reliable power is foundational to ensuring seamless operations in a hyper-connected world. He noted that collaborations between global data center providers and trusted energy partners are essential to sustaining the country’s digital ambitions and long-term competitiveness.
The company itself draws strength from a powerful consortium, bringing together Globe Telecom, Ayala Corporation, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres—an alliance that blends local expertise with international scale.
For Meralco, the deal reflects a broader industry trend: the rapid emergence of data centers as a key growth segment in the Philippine energy landscape. MPower Senior Vice President and Head Redel M. Domingo emphasized that the partnership underscores the company’s focus on delivering flexible, cost-efficient, and reliable power solutions that allow businesses to scale with confidence.
More than just a supply contract, the agreement illustrates how energy and technology are becoming increasingly intertwined—laying the groundwork for a resilient, future-ready digital ecosystem in the Philippines.
