Filipino pole vault star Ernest John “EJ” Obiena is set to make history as he brings the world’s best pole vaulters to the Philippines for the first-ever World Pole Vault Challenge, happening September 20 to 21 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City.

The prestigious competition, staged in partnership with the Ayala Group’s Atletang Ayala and the MVP Sports Foundation, will feature a street-style vaulting format and gather some of the top 10 pole vaulters from around the world. Participants will compete for international ranking points and a cash prize, marking a significant milestone in Philippine athletics.

“This has always been my dream—to host a world-class sporting event on home soil that showcases Filipino excellence and rallies national pride,” said Obiena, a two-time World Championship medalist and current Asian record holder. “It’s finally happening, and I’m inviting every Filipino to be part of this historic moment.”

Sanctioned under the World Athletics Continental Tour–Bronze level, the event is also backed by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association, World Athletics, and the Asian Athletics Association.

Ayala Corporation executive director Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala expressed the group’s pride in supporting Obiena’s mission. “This event is more than just a competition. It’s a celebration of Filipino potential, an inspiration to future athletes, and a symbol of national unity through sport.”

Atletang Ayala, a flagship initiative under the Ayala Foundation’s Leadership Development program, supports elite Filipino athletes by offering full-time employment within the Ayala Group, flexible work arrangements, and access to top-tier training, health care, and international exposure.

The World Pole Vault Challenge is not just a competition—it’s a statement: the Philippines is ready to host the world’s best and show what Filipino athletes are capable of on the global stage.
