EDSA protesters demand action on Duterte impeachment complaints

People gathered at the EDSA People Power Monument on Friday to call for action on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

They began gathering at 9:00 a.m., holding placards and calling for Duterte’s removal from office.

“Impeach! Impeach Sara now!” The protesters chanted, as seen in a video posted by Akbayan on Facebook.

They called on Congress to take action on the impeachment complaints against the Vice President, which were filed before them in December 2024.

Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña said.

“The time has come to take decisive action and finally impeach the Vice President.

An estimated 5,000 people gathered to call on Congress, according to Akbayan.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reported that 2,000 officers were assigned to secure the event, with an additional 1,000 officers on standby.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned drivers to avoid the area to prevent potential heavy traffic.

Cendaña urged Congress to take action and prioritize the people’s interests.

We must uphold our constitutional mandate to revoke the powers of abusive government officials,” he said.
