Cloudy conditions with possible rain were expected in several parts of the country on Sunday due to the easterlies and a frontal system, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its early morning forecast, Pagasa reported that the frontal system was affecting Batanes, while warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, or easterlies, were influencing the rest of the country.

The weather bureau said the easterlies were bringing moisture over Central Luzon, southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, increasing the likelihood of rain in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, scattered rain and thunderstorms were likely over Caraga, Eastern Samar, and Southern Leyte.

Pagasa said isolated rainshowers were expected in other parts of the country, except Batanes, which may experience rains due to the frontal system.

The agency explained that a frontal system occurs when two different air masses meet, often resulting in cloud formation and precipitation.

It added that the easterlies were expected to weaken by Monday, which could lead to generally fair weather in most areas.

However, Pagasa advised the public to remain alert for possible localized thunderstorms that may still develop, especially in the afternoon or evening.
