Filipino tennis star Alex Eala has made her goal clear as she continues her campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan: win the gold medal for the Philippines.
“I want the gold,” Eala said, underscoring her determination to go all the way in the continental meet.
“Everyone wants the gold. And I want it. You know, I worked hard. I’m here. I’m here to compete. Like every tournament, I want to win,” she added.
Eala entered the Asian Games as one of the Philippines’ leading medal hopes following her continued rise in international tennis.
The Filipina earlier cruised into the women’s singles quarterfinals after defeating Thailand’s Patcharin Cheapchandej, 6-1, 6-0, keeping her bid for a podium finish alive.
Despite the expectations surrounding her campaign, Eala said her focus remains on competing and putting the work she has done into action on court.
Her Asian Games campaign comes as Team Philippines seeks to add to its medal haul in Japan, with Filipino athletes competing across several disciplines.
