Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate him. He made this statement at the 11th hearing of the House Quad Committee on Wednesday.
Duterte said that the ICC does not terrify him and that it can come and investigate him anytime. He added that the ICC should pick up the pace and begin the investigation the following day.
“I suppose that you would want to, maybe, make it easy for them (ICC) to visit and start the investigation; I would welcome that,” Duterte responded to Kabataan Partylist Rep. Raoul Manuel.
“Alam mo, wala naman tayong taguan eh,” he added. (You know, I have no hiding place.)
“I did it for my country and for the young people involved in drugs,” he said, referring to the actions he took to implement his war on drugs.
“No excuses. No apologies. If I go to hell, so be it,” he added.
Manuel asked if Duterte could reaffirm his promised cooperation to go through all the processes of the ICC’s investigation.
“Bigyan mo ako ng pera, ako na pupunta ng ICC dun. Ako na mismo magpapa-imbestiga dun,” Duterte answered. (Give me money and I will go to the ICC. I will have myself investigated there.)
“Ang tagal nila, hurry up. Kasi baka matanda na ko, mamatay ako,” he urged the ICC. (They’re taking too long, hurry up. I might become too old, I will die.)
