Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan was confirmed dead on Wednesday following a firearm incident near her residence in Iloilo City.
The confirmation was made by Dueñas Mayor Robert Martin Pama after initial reports surfaced earlier in the day.
“[T]here is no goodbyes between us[.] See you in the next life[.] [I] know we will still be together. [Rest in peace] to my beloved Vice Mayor [Lamasan],” Pama said in a post.
Lamasan’s live-in partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion, told local media that the incident occurred around 7 a.m. Tuesday in the La Paz district.
She was reportedly handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged, with the bullet hitting her in the stomach.
Lamasan was immediately taken to St. Paul’s Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding her death are still being verified.
