BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 13 (Caraga) has sent 24,000 family food packs (FFPs) as augmentation support for families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Jose Abad Santos (JAS), Davao Occidental.

In a statement on Wednesday, the DSWD-13 said that the loading and delivery of the FFPs took place at its warehouse here Tuesday evening.

“This assistance is in line with the directive of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian to ensure the timely delivery of relief assistance to disaster-affected communities,” the department said.

JAS is among the towns badly hit in Davao Occidental during the strong earthquake that struck on June 8 and was felt across most of Mindanao.

The DSWD-13 also continues to serve the affected families in Glan, Sarangani, with hot meals through its mobile kitchen and support staff.

Meanwhile, the agency also reported the release of aid for the family of the late athlete Rene Clert Baterbonia through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) on Tuesday.

Baterbonia is a former child beneficiary of the agency’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

The DSWD-13 said the AICS assistance extended to the family includes funeral and transportation subsidies. It did not indicate the total amount released to the family.

“This timely relief emphasizes that DSWD support for 4Ps families endures through their most difficult moments and is steadfast in providing responsive social protection services to individuals and families facing crises, ensuring timely assistance reaches those in need,” it said.

The AICS assistance was formally handed over by DSWD-13 Agusan del Sur Team Leader Michael John Andohuyano to the family of the late athlete in the town of Talagocon.

Baterbonia’s burial is scheduled on June 24. (PNA)
