The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has sent 2,668 ready-to-eat food packs to local governments in Ilocos Sur for families affected by the southwest monsoon and recent tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay.
DSWD Field Office 1 said the assistance was intended for 14 local government units in the province’s second district.
The areas had been among those affected by persistent rains and flooding brought by the recent weather disturbances.
The food packs were delivered as additional support to local governments handling relief operations in affected communities.
Distribution to qualified families is expected to continue in the coming days.
The DSWD said the assistance formed part of its augmentation support for local governments responding to disasters.
The agency has been providing food and other essential supplies to help communities address immediate needs following flooding and displacement.
Further assistance may be extended depending on assessments from local governments and field offices as relief operations continue.
