MANILA – Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening social protection programs and investing in the welfare of Filipino families amid emerging challenges.

During the Senate hearing on the proposed 2027 DSWD budget on October 21, Gatchalian emphasized that the department would continue improving its programs while remaining focused on its primary responsibility of delivering essential services to vulnerable communities.

“While we continue to innovate and respond to new challenges, we remain fully grounded in our core mandate—delivering regular programs and services that millions of Filipinos depend on,” Gatchalian said.

He stressed that the agency’s initiatives are centered on empowering individuals, supporting children’s development, and helping families achieve greater self-reliance.

“At the heart of these efforts is our commitment to invest in people, helping children grow, families become more self-reliant, and communities move forward,” he added.

The DSWD chief underscored the importance of maintaining accessible and responsive social welfare services while introducing improvements to address the changing needs of beneficiaries.

His remarks highlighted the department’s continued focus on social protection, family development, and community welfare as lawmakers reviewed its proposed funding for 2027.

Gatchalian said the agency remains committed to fulfilling its mandate of assisting Filipinos who rely on government social welfare programs and services.
