The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will begin accepting applications for its Government Internship Program (GIP) from May 19 to 21. The program aims to provide college students with hands-on work experience in various government offices, while also helping them earn money for school expenses.
“This is an opportunity for college students to learn life skills in the workplace and at the same time earn money to defray their school expenses,” said DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao.
The GIP is part of the Kabataan 2000 initiative and is open to students aged 18 to 25, preferably those entering their third or fourth year in college. Applicants must come from families whose income is below the regional poverty threshold set by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Each intern will serve for 30 working days and receive a stipend equivalent to 75 percent of the November 2022 regional minimum wage. There are 75 available slots per DSWD field office and 35 slots at the central office in Quezon City.
Interns at the DSWD Central Office will assist with administrative tasks such as encoding, document tracking, liaising with other offices, and photocopying. Those assigned to field offices will help support regional operations.
Since 2017, nearly 8,000 students have benefited from the program.
