The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) reaffirmed its commitment to support cancer patients, survivors, and their families as the nation marks Cancer Awareness Month.
As of September, DSWD-13 has provided PHP 3.7 million in financial aid to 323 cancer patients through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
“Beyond financial aid, the agency also recognizes the emotional and psychological toll that cancer brings through the WiSupport program,” the DSWD-13 said.
WiSupport is an online mental health and psychosocial platform offering safe spaces for meaningful conversations that nurture hope, strength, and emotional well-being for patients and their families.
Melody, a 38-year-old mother of a cancer patient, shared how the government’s help has given her strength amid the struggle.
“The battle is real and the pain, as a mother, hit deep in me,” she said, adding that she is grateful for the financial and psychosocial support.
DSWD-13 urged the public to continue spreading awareness and compassion.
“We call on everyone to spread awareness, show empathy, and take part in creating a community of care where one fights cancer alone,” it said. The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13) reaffirmed its commitment to support cancer patients, survivors, and their families as the nation marks Cancer Awareness Month.
