A driver was slapped with a 90-day license suspension after he was caught on video assaulting a man pushing a cart on the street, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Monday.
The LTO said the incident was captured in a video posted Sunday showing the driver stepping out of his white Toyota Hilux to confront the cart pusher.
The driver was seen striking the cart pusher on the back of the head during the altercation, the agency said.
The cart pusher was with his child at the time, who was later seen crying in the video.
Following the incident, the LTO said it issued the driver both a 90-day license suspension and a show-cause order.
The driver was ordered to appear before the LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division to explain why he should not be declared an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
In a statement, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao strongly condemned the driver’s actions.
Lacanilao said the agency would not tolerate violent behavior on the road, especially toward vulnerable road users.
“If the allegations in the video are true, the driver must be held accountable,” Lacanilao said.
The LTO said further details of the incident will be determined during the formal hearing.
