A driver was found dead after crashing into the center island of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) near Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City at 11:49 p.m. on Monday, February 24.
The front of the vehicle was completely destroyed, while the rear section went over the center island and ignited.
According to Highway Patrol Group spokesperson P/Lt. Nadame Malang, the car was speeding on the SLEx.
“Sa inisyal na impormasyon na nakuha natin dito nga po sa mga kasamahan natin sa Highway Patrol team… Napansin po ng mga round securities kung saan mabilis ‘yung pag-andar o patakbo ng sasakyan na kung saan ito ay tumama sa center island nitong nasabi po nating daanan na nag-cause nung insidente,” he said.
In their investigation, it was found that the driver was trapped in the burning car. Due to severe burns, the authorities have yet to confirm the driver’s gender.
“Initially, na-trap ang occupant sa sasakyan at hindi na nakatakas,” he explained.
No items were recovered that could identify the driver.
The Highway Patrol Group assured that they are investigating the cause of the accident.
“Kino-coordinate (namin) sa Taguig City investigation office. We will wait for the further investigation ng forensic group ng SOCO,” Malang assured.
