Dr. Raquel Fortun recommends X-Ray for Taal Lake recovery bags

Forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel Fortun has recommended that each bag recovered from Taal Lake, believed to contain human remains, undergo x-ray examination before being opened.

According to Dr. Fortun, it would be more beneficial to conduct x-rays on these bags, as every piece of recovered material is crucial for the analysis results. She noted that there could be bullets and other items found within the bags.

The veteran forensic pathologist clarified that she has not been contracted for this investigation and has no connection to the laboratory tests being conducted on the recovered bags from the lake.

National Bureau of Investigation Director Jaime Santiago has confirmed that his agency’s team will conduct the examination of the recovered bags.

Dr. Fortun previously stated that if these bags undergo a thorough forensic investigation using appropriate forensic science, it may be possible to identify the remains and determine to whom the bones belong.

She also expressed concern over how the remains were handled while still at the site, particularly regarding the opening of the first bag that was lifted from the lake.

Such actions, she warned, could compromise the scene and potentially affect the investigation’s outcomes.
