DPWH to reopen rehabilitated Dimasalang Bridge Oct. 20

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday announced that the newly rehabilitated Dimasalang Bridge in Manila is set to reopen to motorists on Oct. 20, following four and a half months of construction.

During an inspection of the bridge, DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the 56-year-old structure is nearing completion, with workers now finishing the remaining section of the northbound lane in Sampaloc.

“We will be opening very soon — hopefully, within the next two weeks. The target reopening date is likely October 20,” he said.

The ongoing works include asphalt paving and installation of railings to reinforce the bridge.

“What’s great is that this project only started last June — it has been just over four months. As President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has repeatedly emphasized, change shouldn’t just be a concept, it must be demonstrated through projects that are completed quickly and properly,” Dizon said.

Dizon said the project is intended to demonstrate that infrastructure works can be completed promptly without compromising quality.

“We want to prove — in line with PBBM’s directive — that it can be done, provided we take the work seriously, avoid cutting corners, and ensure the job is done properly,” he said.

The rehabilitation project has a budget of PHP160 million. (PNA)
