The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced plans to undertake a large-scale rehabilitation of the Maharlika Highway, the country’s longest road network, within the year.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said the project marks the first time the highway will undergo a comprehensive repair program since its construction was completed.
The rehabilitation will cover damaged sections along the entire stretch of the highway, spanning both northern and southern corridors of the country.
Dizon described the effort as extensive, signaling a nationwide scope aimed at restoring the road’s structural condition and safety.
Specific details on funding, timelines, and priority segments have yet to be disclosed by the agency.
Also known as the Pan-Philippine Highway, the Maharlika Highway runs more than 3,000 kilometers, connecting key areas from Luzon to Mindanao.
Dizon underscored the road’s strategic importance, noting that no other highway plays a bigger role in linking communities, commerce, and transport across the archipelago.
