Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the fast-tracking of the demolition of the Metrowalk property and the subsequent construction of the Ortigas Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).
During his inspection of the project site on Thursday, Lopez thanked the construction team for their efforts and directed them to accelerate the completion of the station for the benefit of commuters.
“Tatlong taon nang delayed ito, kailangan mahabol na natin. ‘Yun din naman ang utos sa atin ng Pangulo — bilisan ang construction ng subway,” Lopez said, referring to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to speed up major infrastructure projects.
The demolition of the Metrowalk property began on September 2, led by Lopez and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
As of now, the right-of-way acquisition for the project is 82 percent complete and is expected to reach 95 percent by December.
Once operational, the Metro Manila Subway will be capable of serving 519,000 passengers daily and will cut travel time from Valenzuela City to Pasay City from one and a half hours to just 45 minutes. The entire subway system is expected to be fully operational by 2032.
