The Department of Transportation (DOTr), led by Acting Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, is ramping up preparations for the expected surge of commuters during the Christmas and year-end holidays through heightened operational measures across all transport sectors.
This aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safe, smooth, and convenient travel for the public during the peak holiday season.
“Ngayong papalapit ang Pasko, our goal is to make travel safe and stress-free for every commuter. All our attached agencies are on heightened alert to ensure readiness in all areas of transport operations,” Lopez said.
To handle the increase in passengers, MRT-3, LRT-1, LRT-2, and PNR have been ordered to conduct preventive maintenance and readiness checks. Additional train trips, standby units, and possibly extended operating hours will be implemented during peak travel days before Christmas and New Year.
For road transport, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) instructed bus and PUV operators to ensure vehicle roadworthiness, comply with safety and fare regulations, and prepare backup units to manage passenger build-up.
The DOTr is also working with law enforcement agencies to intensify anti-colorum operations and maintain passenger safety along major routes such as the EDSA Carousel and provincial terminals.
To assist commuters, additional personnel will be deployed in key terminals and rail stations for passenger assistance, crowd management, and real-time information.
“We are focused on delivering a safe, organized, and reliable transportation experience this holiday season. This is our way of giving the public peace of mind and convenience as they travel to spend time with their loved ones,” Lopez concluded.
