DOTr, AyalaLand break ground on Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange

After delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and private sector partners have officially ground the highly anticipated Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange (TCITX).

The state-of-the-art transport hub, modeled after the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), is set to revolutionize Metro Manila’s transit system. It aims for completion in 2027 and full operations by early 2028.

TCITX, designed to serve as a multimodal transport hub, will accommodate 160,000 commuters and facilitate the movement of 5,200 vehicles daily. Strategically located in Arca South, Taguig City, the six-story terminal will seamlessly integrate with the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR)—which connects Clark to Calamba, Laguna—and the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), further enhancing connectivity across the metro.

“This project is a public-private partnership (PPP) that envisions a world-class, multimodal terminal spanning over five hectares of land,” said DOTr Undersecretary for Road Sector Jesus Ferdinand Ortega during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The P5-billion project will feature dedicated terminals for provincial and city buses, modern jeepneys, and other minor transport modes, ensuring an organized and convenient commuting experience.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized that TCITX will set a new standard for transport hubs, particularly for commuters traveling from the southern regions of Luzon.

“We need to ensure more space and improved facilities for passengers. I’m confident the developers will apply lessons learned from PITX to enhance the commuter experience,” Bautista said.

Ayala Land Inc., which has extensive experience in transit-oriented developments, most notably the One Ayala Terminal in Makati, is leading the project’s private sector component.

“Developing world-class transport hubs is crucial in easing mobility and improving public transportation efficiency. With our experience in One Ayala Terminal, we are excited to contribute to another vital infrastructure project that will benefit thousands of daily commuters,” said Anna Ma. Margarita Dy, President and CEO of Ayala Land Inc.

Beyond TCITX, DOTr is already planning a similar transport terminal in the northern cities of Metro Manila. Bautista confirmed that a feasibility study is underway, with the government actively searching for an ideal location.
“The North Terminal Exchange will be just as large and comprehensive as TCITX,” he stated.

With the Taguig City Integrated Terminal Exchange set to become a key transport hub in the coming years, Metro Manila’s commuters can look forward to a more seamless, efficient, and modern public transportation system.
