DOT partners with OPPO to boost tourism innovation

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and OPPO Philippines, through Millennial Zeal Technology Corporation (MZTC), formalized a partnership on Monday to enhance tourism initiatives using OPPO’s innovative smartphones and IoT technology. The signing was held at the DOT Central Office in Makati City.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized the collaboration’s alignment with sustainability, inclusiveness, and responsible tourism, saying, “This partnership is anchored on the DOT’s advocacies… to empower tourists by giving access to reliable technology and accurate tourism information, and most importantly to ensure that every visit to the Philippines benefits our destinations.”

The partnership will equip all 18 DOT Operating Offices and 12 Tourist Rest Areas nationwide with advanced smartphones and IoT devices to improve content creation, real-time reporting, and visitor assistance. Frasco added, “Through this partnership, we are gifted with cutting-edge technology…while empowering our teams in carrying out our mandate: documenting tourism activities, reporting on site conditions, assisting visitors, coordinating with LGUs, and monitoring the implementation of our tourism programs.”

OPPO’s Associate Marketing Director Joanarc Sales highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting tourism storytelling and training, stating, “This collaboration will help our tourism frontliners, creators, and regional offices tell those stories with clarity, consistency, and pride… Together, we will support skills, training, content development, and responsible storytelling with respect to the Filipino culture in alignment with the DOT standards.”

The ceremonial signing was attended by DOT Undersecretaries and Assistant Secretaries, alongside OPPO executives including CEO Damon Huang and COO Leo Li, marking the start of a one-year collaboration to blend innovation with nation-building advocacy in the Philippine tourism sector.
