DOJ criticizes Discaya’s finger heart gesture as insincere in Flood Control Probe

The Department of Justice on Sunday condemned high-profile contractor Sarah Discaya for flashing a finger heart and making lighthearted remarks during her visit to its headquarters, interpreting them as signs of insincerity and complacency amid serious allegations.

Discaya and her husband, Pacifico, known as “Curlee,” visited the DOJ on Saturday to submit additional evidence for the ongoing case against lawmakers and others involved in anomalous flood control projects. Upon entering, when asked by reporters how she was doing, Discaya responded only with a finger heart gesture.

After more than three hours inside, as she exited and ABS-CBN News inquired about her feelings, Discaya quipped: “Gandahan niyo yung memes ko” (make good memes about me). Discaya, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Pasig City in the May elections, has been linked to numerous government contracts.

In a statement, Justice Spokesperson Mico Clavano said the actions are under review. “The heart sign and the remarks of Ms. Sarah Discaya are all taken into account in the assessment and evaluation of the persons involved,” Clavano said. “It is a sign of insincerity and complacency. We urge all persons of interest in this case to behave accordingly,” he added.

The DOJ is evaluating the Discayas for eligibility in the Witness Protection Program. Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee, revealed that the couple’s nine firms secured P207.25 billion in infrastructure projects from 2016 to 2025, based on Department of Public Works and Highways data.
