The Department of Health (DOH) reported a 39% decline in influenza-like illness (ILI) cases in the first two weeks of October.
According to Health Promotion Bureau Director Tina Marasigan, over 6,400 ILI cases were recorded nationwide from September 28 to October 11, down from 10,740 cases logged between September 14 and 27.
The figure is also 25% lower compared to more than 8,600 cases during the same period in 2024. Marasigan noted, however, that the numbers may still change as surveillance continues.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa earlier clarified that the agency has no plans to implement a lockdown despite the rise in cases among students that prompted class suspensions in Metro Manila.
He explained that ILI is a seasonal respiratory illness and not an outbreak. He advised the public to wear face masks or stay home when sick to prevent transmission, especially during the rainy season.
The DOH continues to remind the public to wash hands regularly, cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, get enough rest, eat nutritious food, and stay hydrated.
Those experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or body pain are advised to stay home, take medicines like paracetamol for fever, and consult a doctor or the nearest health center.
