DOH launches health programs, donates medical supplies for Brigada Eskwela 2025

In a vibrant kickoff to Brigada Eskwela 2025, the Department of Health (DOH) unveiled an exciting array of health packages and medical services, shining a spotlight on the vital role that schools play in nurturing student health and well-being. The event took place at Bacacay East Central School in Albay, where Health Secretary Ted Herbosa celebrated the achievements of 83 schools nationwide, honoring them as “Health Champions” for their dedication to promoting health initiatives on campus.

As part of the recognition, each of these esteemed schools received the “Bawat Bata Malusog” (Every Child Healthy) packages, brimming with essential health equipment like blood pressure monitors, weighing scales, first aid kits, and other crucial clinic supplies. These kits are set to enhance the health services available right where students learn and grow.

But that’s not all—Last Mile Schools were also equipped with specialized kits aimed at encouraging teachers’ self-care and physical activity, fostering a supportive wellness environment in these often remote education hubs. To further bolster safety, the DOH distributed disaster readiness kits, arming schools with the tools needed to effectively respond in emergencies.

Among the lucky recipients of the “Bawat Bata Mahalaga” (Every Child is Important) kits were schools like Jamorawon National High School, San Juan Integrated School, Rinconada National Technical Vocational School, and Fulgueras Elementary School. These initiatives ensure that every child feels valued and supported in their educational journey.

As the Department of Education (DepEd) prepares school facilities for the upcoming year, the DOH is steadfast in its mission to safeguard the health and well-being of teachers and school staff, recognizing their crucial role in shaping the next generation.

Free services offered during this event include medical consultations, vaccinations, X-rays, laboratory tests, HIV screening, mental health support, family planning, deworming, cancer awareness, and engaging health literacy sessions. These sessions cover vital topics like nutrition, physical activity, environmental health, substance use prevention, sexual and reproductive health, and violence and injury prevention.

“Supporting our schools’ health is not just about building structures; it’s about cultivating a healthier new generation. It’s essential to prepare not just the school facilities, but also the health of the teachers and personnel who guide our youth,” emphasized Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.

Since launching the Healthy Learning Institutions program in 2022, the DOH has made significant strides, reaching 1,457 schools across 55 provinces and cities. This groundbreaking initiative is all about creating school environments that champion the well-being of both students and educators.

The DOH’s efforts resonate with the Universal Health Care Law, underscoring the importance of schools as key spaces for advancing the health of young people and those working in education. Together, we’re laying the foundation for a healthier, brighter future, one school at a time!
