MANILA – The Department of Energy (DOE) is strengthening efforts to expand electric vehicle adoption in the country through technical briefings, test drives and information campaigns on charging infrastructure and industry regulations.
Through its Energy Utilization Management Bureau-Electric Vehicle Industry Management Division, the DOE is conducting an EV Caravan aimed at improving public understanding of electric mobility and the proper installation, operation and maintenance of electric vehicle charging stations.
The initiative also provides participants with information on electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and policies and guidelines under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said wider EV use could help reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel, shield consumers from volatile global oil prices and support a cleaner transport system.
“Every electric vehicle powered vehicle helps reduce our dependence on imported fuel, protects consumers from volatile global oil prices, strengthens our energy resilience, and supports a cleaner and more sustainable transport system,” Garin said.
The program also supports the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry, which seeks to accelerate EV adoption and expand charging infrastructure nationwide.
According to the DOE, at least 66,685 EVs had been sold in 2026, while 1,876 EV charging stations were available nationwide.
The department said it will continue pursuing programs aimed at developing a more accessible, reliable and sustainable EV ecosystem as electric mobility expands in the country.
