MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin vowed to check and review the management of electric cooperatives in Pangasinan following reports of frequent power interruptions in some localities.
“We’ll check with your electric coop. You know, it’s not the power plant that gives power to your house (directly). It’s the electric coop. So, we’ll have a review with your electric cooperative because they’re the ones who bring electricity to the houses, it’s not this power plant or the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines,” Garin said.
She said the supply of electricity should be sufficient in the province and there should be no interruptions, given that Pangasinan hosts hydropower, coal-fired, and solar power plants.
Garin said host provinces and municipalities also benefit from hosting power plants through taxation, which adds funds for improving government services.
“I’m very thankful, and Pangasinan has been very supportive of the energy transition as mandated by the President (Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.). A lot of people will be helped by your province and the country, especially in energy. So, we hope that this can be returned to your houses, to your province, with the help also of our power plants,” she added.
Garin made the remarks during the formal inauguration of the AboitizPower Solar Power Plant in Barangay San Roque, San Manuel, Pangasinan, on Wednesday. (PNA)
