Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon met with Bataan 2nd District Rep. Abet Garcia and Asian Development Bank (ADB) officials to discuss major infrastructure projects aimed at addressing flooding and improving connectivity.
The meeting with ADB Director General Nianshan Zhang and other officials focused on proposed long-term infrastructure investments, including measures for flood-prone coastal communities along Manila Bay.
Among the projects discussed was the Manila Bay Integrated Flood Control Defense and Coastal Expressway Project, which is intended to combine flood protection with improved transport infrastructure in areas surrounding the bay.
Dizon also cited the proposed Sorsogon-Samar Bridge Project, envisioned to provide a direct land connection between Luzon and the Visayas and improve the movement of people and goods between the two major island groups.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had directed the Department of Public Works and Highways to work with multilateral development partners to accelerate infrastructure projects intended to improve mobility and address other development needs.
The DPWH described the Manila Bay and Sorsogon-Samar projects as major long-term infrastructure initiatives as the government seeks outside financing and technical support for large-scale projects.
