A chilling 911 call has surfaced following the shocking discovery of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, lifeless in their New Mexico home. The distressing audio, obtained by TMZ, captures the moment a maintenance worker desperately pleaded for emergency responders to arrive at the scene.
The unidentified worker, his name redacted from the call, struggled to convey the gravity of the situation to the dispatcher. Initially, he hesitated before stating that he had found “one or two deceased individuals” inside the residence. His voice quivered as he urged authorities to “please send somebody really quick.”
As the dispatcher coordinated with first responders, the caller’s emotions intensified. He could be heard choking back tears, repeatedly muttering, “Damn,” as the reality of the situation set in.
Despite his apparent distress, the caller admitted he had no personal connection to Hackman, 95, or Arakawa, 64, and could not provide specific details about them. “[It’s] a female and a male, probably. I don’t know, sir. Just send somebody up here really quick,” he said anxiously.
The worker revealed that he had not been inside the house but had glimpsed a body through the window. “[The house] is closed. It’s locked. I can’t go in,” he explained. “But I see that she is lying down on the floor.”
He confirmed that neither individual appeared to be moving. “No, dude, they’re not awake or alert!” he exclaimed in growing panic. “Just send somebody out here really quick!”
Authorities were directed to meet the worker at the entrance of the gated community where Hackman and Arakawa resided. Upon gaining access to the home, police discovered Arakawa lying on her right side in the bathroom. A Santa Fe detective at the scene noted signs of decomposition, including “bloating in her face and mummification in her hands and feet.”
Pills were found scattered across the bathroom countertop, and investigators suspect she may have suffered a sudden fall. Given the state of her remains, officials estimate she had been deceased for an extended period before being found.
Hackman was discovered in a separate room adjacent to the kitchen. His glasses were found near his body, leading investigators to believe he, too, may have collapsed suddenly.
Although two of the couple’s dogs were found alive and in good health, a third dog was discovered dead approximately 10 to 15 feet away from Arakawa.
Workers who were familiar with the couple told police they had not seen them for nearly two weeks, raising further concerns about the timeline of their deaths.
Due to the unsettling circumstances, authorities secured a search warrant to conduct a thorough investigation. Officials deemed the deaths “suspicious enough in nature” to warrant an extensive probe into possible causes.
Early speculation suggested carbon monoxide poisoning, but a subsequent inspection by the fire department and the New Mexico Gas Company found no evidence of a gas leak in the home. The cause of death remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the tragic end of the Hollywood icon and his beloved wife.
