The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has issued a warning regarding a scam Facebook post from a fraudulent Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) account that contains malicious links.
In a statement on Sunday, the DICT explained that the links in the post are designed to steal personal information or compromise users’ devices. “We urge everyone to refrain from clicking suspicious links, providing personal details, or engaging with unverified online posts,” it stated.
The DICT has directed the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to coordinate with Facebook for the immediate removal of the fraudulent content. This action aligns with DICT Secretary Henry Aguda’s order for the CICC to take strict measures against deep fakes used in creating fake news and financial scams.
“We call on all Filipinos to remain vigilant and practice responsible online behavior. If you encounter suspicious activity, scams, or any form of online deception, please report it immediately through the CICC Hotline at 1326 or official reporting channels,” the DICT added.
